Chippendale, famed for his furniture designs of Rococo and Neoclassical styles, published a book of furniture patterns titled, "The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director". Though he only sold 308 copies of the book, Chippendale became a sensation, as most of these books were sold to the aristocracy (Louis XVI and Catherine the Great both obtained copies of the
